I have a 1996 Mercury 115 offshore series.I had an aluminum prop w/19 in pitch.Just purchased ss prop w/17 in pitch for better performance out of the hole.A week later i put my boat in the shop because clutch dog and gears were rounded.Without my consent, they changed the gears to hi-altitude lower gear ratio. Now,my boat runs 14 mph slower on top end.(Was 40mph now 27mph)(motor will turn 6000 rpm or more). Can someone tell me gear ratios for my lower unit and any suggestions to get my performance back?

the shop that did the incorrect repair on your engine should do it again and install the right gear set. its that simple.

Your engine is avilable in two different gearset ratios.2.07/1,and 2.31/1.I'm figuring you originally had a 2.07/1 gear ratio. If your dealer as metioned above installed the wrong gears in your lower unit ,you are probably now running 2.31/1 which would result in your higher rpms and slower top end.Have them change it to the correct gear-set.
