1985 Merc 150. I don't want to use the oil injection pump. Don't trust it or I'm paranoid, whichever. I planned to take it off and even bought the plug. But this boat was a project and I'm pobably going to put it on the market after July 4th. My question. Why couldn't I just reroute the fuel line and plug the reservoir etc., and leave the pump on the block in case the next guy wants to use it?

Hi Dakk1

I own the 135hp version of your motor (identical powerhead basics) and had the oil injection removed. My mechanic stressed the importance of removing the pump properly as it requires the oil to lube itself. if the supply was cut off, removed, disconnected, etc, it would eventually seize itself causing nasty things like stripping the crankshaft gear and allowing chunks to swish around jamming bearings, pistons, etc- not nice!.
Best to either go all the way or not at all.

hope this helps
Nilsson
