Don't want to ruin my engine/flushing water from oil

I am having trouble getting engine clean of water that leaked into oil in 1975 GM 225 OMC V8. It wasn't stored properly and water got in the carb and ran into 2 of the cylinders. After thoughouly cleaning carb, manifold and, valve channels, it purs like a kitten, but after changing one round of hideous looking chocolate shake oil, I am having problems pumping out the oil I just changed it with. Seems there is an obstructiong in the dipstic preventing me from sucking out the oil. Possibly old emulsified oil that settled to the bottom of pan and is now congealed enough to prevent it from being pumped out. I am worried about running the engine to warm it up enough to see if that fixes it, can I do this and just keep an eye on the temp?

Thanks.

i would work on getting it out some how if something is blocking the dipstick it has a good chance of blocking the oil pump and bang

?? a small shot of air in the stick
a better oil removal pump

tommays

The first real dirty batch came out ok, really thick and nasty but it came out. That was after running it a while (5 min) here and there keeping an eye on the temp. I was thinking of taking an air compressor with the engine off and blowing through the dipstick to see if I can stir up what might be clogged down there. the milky oil is making its way up to the valve covers so it seems to be circulating.

tommays.."if a dirty bottom slows you down what do think it does to your boat"...that's FUNNY!
Mahoney, how did you get the first batch of oil out???
after removing the oil/water mix, remove the oil filter. prior to installing the new filter, you need to purge the oil pump and pick-up tube. Do this by,
A) Install the drain plug, if you removed it. Fill with your new oil, your choice. Then remove the distributor and manually turn the oil pump with a low speed drill motor, turning the same direction as the rotor would. catch this old mixed oil. Then install your new oil filter and if it is possible, fill the new filter with as much oil as practicle.....
OR,
B) Instead of removing the dist. With the old filter off. Disconnect the coil and bump the starter over a few turns until the new oil is pumping through. (try to catch the oil as it is being pumped out).
you will need to do this 3-5 times. Tip...use some cheap oil and filters.
Tip...Are you sure that water is comming in from the carb????? could be somthing else?/?
How old are the exhaust manifolds??
Do a search, if you haven't done so already, on leaking exhaust manifolds or milkshake oil. let us know what is found out and please excuse the misspellled words, it's my second day back from vacation. (at lake Powell) :D

Thought I solved my problems on my restore project by replacing the exhaust manifolds that were cracked. Oil kept getting milky. After two flushes, I started looking some more. Long story short, found crack in the block.

I used Berryman's added to the oil to flush out the gunky junk... it worked well. But you have to run the engine up to temp for about 5 min. for it to work.

Too bad it couldn't save the block ! :(
