Before I put things back together, I'd like to run it by the group...Engine specs in sig line.

1. Here's the old impeller. Dealer says it looked like it would lead to warm temps at idle which is what I was experiencing. Do others concur?

2. I'm putting thermostat in like this. Correct?

T Stat.jpg

3. I did buy a plastic sleeve with the T-Stat to hold it in, but I'm thinking I'll just reuse the brass one and get my $10 (!) back. Agree?

4. Finally, this looks like some kind of temp sensor in the side of the T-Stat housing. I do not see it come up on any microfiche, but I didn't look hard at electric schematics either. You can see the material that was taped around it but has since dried and broke apart. I'm wondering what this material might be, or is there another type material (plumbers putty?) that I could simply use without having to take this sensor out?

Thank for considering!

1. Concur... The impeller has taken a "set". Although I have seen much worse! you caught it early.
2. Concur... (w/o-ring underneath)
3. The brass looks like it cleaned up ok.
4. Was this hooked up to anything? The one on the stbd side looks fine and that is typically the sending unit for your gauge. Do you have a high temp alarm? Looks like you can thread the whole thing out to repalce it. I wouldn't try jerry-rigging it. If it is not used, probably ok to leave as is, or replace with a plug. other thoughts out there?

Yes, I do have a high temp alarm. This particular unit is on the right side of the housing as you are looking towards the back of the boat towards the front of the motor.

And yes with respect to #2..got the o-ring.

Boat Talk, Please!!:) It is much simpler just to say "Port side" (Is always the left side of the boat and anything in the boat). Of course, pictures are always good, too!

So...based on my question, the damaged sender in other pictures is the high temp alarm sender? (or is this some other "houseing" you are referring to?). Were you able to get it replaced?

You are correct, it is the high temp alarm sender (on the "port side" of the housing). Readily available at most retailers.

Not sure which one he has, but the Mrecruiser numbers are: (these can be crossed over to Mallory or Sierra numbers easily)
48952 Closes at 190 - 200 deg F Opens 150 - 170 deg F
87-86080 Closes at 215 - 225 deg F Opens 175 - 195 deg F
