Have read posts on this subject but am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Have Mercruiser/Bravo. Where are down solenoid and any related switches and relays located. I do not have manuals unfortunately. As I was just billed $640 for a tuneup, oil and plug change and coil replacement, I am most hesitant to use marina mechanic again! Also, do you think above work could be related to problem?

Selenoids are located on the trim pump. One for up and one for down they have fuses for the system. Does not sound like the mechanics could have messed up your system unless a wrench hit the power stud on a selenoid and blew a fuse.

Re: down trim not working

hello, i had the same problem. one of my hyd. cylinders went bad. to test them remove the hyd. lines from one cylinder at a time and plug the lines with a 1/4 npt cap. then operate the up and down switch if it is a cylinder then the good one will operate the unit correctly

Re: down trim not working

you pump has 3 wires a black ground bolted to the trim pump frame a blue wire to the up solenoid and a green to the down solenoid

the wires from your trim switch are the same color blue to the up solenoid coil and green to the down solenoid coil

a red wire comes from the + post on the solenoid frame and goes through a fuse that allows the coils to be powered by the trim switch

i think you really need a shop manaul because the wires go a lot of places and if you are new to electric problems it wil be hard to understand with out one and sometimes hard to understand even if you have one

tommays

I just got finished working on a friends trim pump it would go down but not up. I tracked it down to a dirty connection at the trim position switch on the out drive she works sweet now after a little clean up and new grease.

Re: down trim not working

I have a Mercruiser stern and the unit is stuck in the down position. The up/down trim switch and the Trailer switch just make a low clicking noise. I have disconnected the Red, blue and green wires on the pump and attempted to put + voltage to the blue wire and green wires, but there was no clicking sound and no movement of the trim. BTW - the red wire has plenty of power and the screw that holds the plastic cover that covers the green and blue wires is also hot.

The boat is on a hoist so it will be a pain to put it on a trailer and take it to the shop.

Any ideas?
