DP-D1 Horsepower rating

Don,

I have a 1994 Mariah Talari 22' with a 7.4GL motor rated at 330 horse with a DP-D1 outdrive. If I rebuild my engine what is the max horsepower this drive will take... should I rebuild to stock or can I step it up some?

You aren't going to hurt it with a 7.4, they can handle the torque of Volvo's 6 cylinder diesels, you aren't going to get close to that with a 7.4.

Welcome to iboats. Don't see many DP-D1 posts on here...

I'm having a little trouble with my DP-D1 right now, but I've already upgraded my 330 Hp stock motor to a 420 Hp motor and MAN what a difference it makes! Did the job 2 seasons ago. Improved planeoff by at least 5-10 seconds, and increased fuel mileage to about 1.75 Mpg in mild head winds and seas at 25 Mph crusing speed. At worst if I cruise 50 miles on the ICW and reduce speed to an idle to pass other boats a dozen or so times I'll get around 1.5 Mpg.
