DPS-A lower unit drain plug stripped

My lower unit drain plug fitting on the drive is stripped out. I have tried a new plug but it doesn't snug up well Im curious if any have removed that piece that the drain plug is in and was it a difficult job?

The top cap or the the gearcases portion?

Removing and installing the bearing carrier is a very easy job with the correct tools.

Replacing the bearing carrier is more complex.

It is the lower screw that's behind the props. What are the special tools required I wonder.
