i am taking my dps-a drive off and it is stuck. Got the 6 bolts off and had a really hard time getting it to break free. When I finally got it free it has slid out about the length of the studs it stops and won’t go any further. I assume it’s stuck at driveshaft. Any ideas to get it the rest of the way off?? Also the forward prop is stuck on and I have yet to get it free. Does it have to be off for drive to come off?? Any ideas on getting it off? Thanks

Does that drive have the cover that can be removed and the shift cable/shift mechanism underneath? If so it may be the shift cable still attached.

VP tells you to pull your props and grease your prop shafts every year to prevent the props from seizing on the shaft for a reason. if the prop is mildly stuck, you can knock it off with a block of wood and a mallet

if the prop is really stuck, you will need to cut the prop in two and split it to remove

regarding your drive, did you pull the shift cable?

Yes shift cable is pulled and trim cylinders are detached. It will move around two inches and then go no further. I have it in forward gear. Any ideas to get it the rest of the way off??

There is always the wooden block placed in the dip if the top of the drive and reinstalling the trim rams and having them push it free. It`s a last resort attempt, but does work if you are slow and mindful of what is going on.

Cannot get this thing off!! Pushed with rams every way we can think of. Hooked up straps to it and pulled with forklift still won’t come off. It’s right at edge of studs. Pulled bellow back and could see the u joints and driveshaft look pretty good. The two black rings around shaft are out of gimbal but absolutely can’t get it any further. Any ideas???

Normally if you can get it so far that you can see the 2 "O" rings it should be free. Only other thing I can think is that the shaft might have rusted inside the boat and that the corrosion might be binding in the gimbal bearing bore. Perhaps squirt some lubrication in there and push it back and forth might just help. Best of luck.

I agree with the above. If you can see the two black O rings, the shaft tapers after them and you should be able to slide out. You might have a lot of corrosion on the hub splines and shaft splines that are keeping it from coming out the rest of the way.

The only other thing I could suggest would be using plastic logging wedges and slowly tapping them on two sides.

Look behind the engine and you should be able to see the shaft. It could be possible that the inner core of the drive coupler has pulled out of the coupler and the core is keeping the shaft from pulling out anymore. If this has happened then the engine has to come out and the aluminum core has to be cut off. The other thing if you can get a cutting torch behind the engine is to cut the shaft. A fire hazard of course but sometime the last resort.
