Has anybody any good ideas on how to fix the drain screws in the bottom of the carburators so they wont fall into the sea if/when I have to drain the carburators. Mickey Mouse screws? drill a hole and fasten a wire?

This problem occurs sometimes in the winter water is about +4 C and air is about -5 to -10 C.

Thanks
Joche

Those aren't really drain screws. They're access screws to the main orfices. They can be used to drain the carbs but that isn't their main function.
Why do ya need to drain the carbs anyway?

c/6
Hooty

Thank you for the clarification. I have comed to notice that in the autumn/winter/early spring there tend to be some ice buildup in the carbs, when you have been running for a while and then take a 10-20min break. Even if I but metanol in the gas to fix the waterproblem. The first time it happend I was driving slow among ice and the engine just died. After a while of this and that an the other I bled the carbs. and it started up. It could have been that the engine just melted the ice and the metanol did it thing. The reason why I don't want to go WOT in the thin ice or ice areas is that it will eventually kill my boat (Buster Magnum) which only has about 4 mm of marinal aluminium in its hull. There is a picture from early november, and after November the ice just gets thicker and I have to stick to routes until it is snowmobil time until April.
http://www.fmnh.helsinki.fi/users/schantz/november.jpg

Joche

Joche, Are you sure the condensation is forming in the carb or could you have condensation/water in your fuel tank? Do you use a water/fuel separating filter?

I have a "working" waterseparator which means that it works as good as it can under these circumstances. The eqation with minus (centigrade) in the air and almost minus in the water is a tricky one. To illustrate the situation: I have a snowshowel in the boat to get the snow/water mixture out before it cloggs upp the drainage in the boat.
http://www.fmnh.helsinki.fi/users/schantz/img_0471.jpg http://www.fmnh.helsinki.fi/users/schantz/img_0472.jpg
These pictures were taken last spring.

I hope I'm wrong but it seems to me that after a while (2-3 days) of boating eventually there will be a problem with the carbs and it helps after I drain them unless I can find a place were I can use WOT for a while.

I wonder how the professional north/south pole guys does it?

Any help is greeted wtih open arms.

Joche
