drained lower unit oil???

i drained it and it is milky brown what should i check and can i get new seals and gaskets for a 1970 55hp Chrysler 557ha i have already determined that i have to put in a new water pump impeller but need to know if i need both of the gasket sets that iboats list for it or just one but didnt see any of the lower end gaskets or seals listed please help

Google sierra number 18-2636. That should be the seal kit you need. Motor that old it could be the drive shaft or the prop shaft are worn at the seal. If you can rig up a pressure tester and submerge the lower unit in water and look for bubbles. It would suck to tear that unit apart and find the drain plug gasket was the leak. You could even take it to a radiator shop. They can pressure test it for you.

well i got to looking at it and i use gasket maker and put new seals on it and the impeller looks like new i used air and blew out the passage ways i think the prob was the pick up tube was not on right will be reasembleing it this weekend and testing the water pump again will post results

thanks guys for all the help but i got it fixed it was just the pick up tube not installed right fixed it and it is like new motor i have it winterized and ready for spring
