Re: Draining a gas tank?
(Holy moly Batman another Liberator? ^ ^ ^ ^ Hey
krisnowicki lets compare performance!!)
Brokemerc,
If you think you have water (and other debris) in your tank your best bet would be to remove the tank and clean it well.
You probably have access to your gage sender and it's a really good idea to remove the sender so you can look inside the tank to ensure that you have all the debris out.
I removed most all of the debris in my tank by using some 3/4" clear vinyl tubing from Home Depot to "vacuum" it out.
DO NOT USE A VACUUM!!!
Use 15 or 20' of tubing and siphon all the fuel out thru the gage sender hole..... If you have a fair amount of "head pressure" (vertical distance between the fuel level and the receiving tank) you'll have a pretty good vacuum to suck out all the debris. Have a helper ready to put their thumb over the hose and switch to an empty container when the first one fills up.
Filter the gas thru a decent filter and use it in your car or something.
My gage sender hole was near the rear of the tank so I picked the bow up to make the hole the lowest point and started the siphon. I got 25 gallons out of mine + all the "stuff".....It was well worth it!!
Put the fuel gage sender back in when you're ready with a new gasket.
You can also get a good "eyeball" check on the in-tank fuel strainer.
Cheers,
Rick
