I have recently purchased a 1988 Bayliner Capri bow rider. I would like to know how to drain the fuel from the tank. I want to change all the fluids because the boat has been sitting for 6 years

Get ya a piece of garden hose.. Siphon it out...

I like to plug off the vent.. Put a rag tight around the fuel inlet.. Then blow.. Put the hose down low.. Look out here comes the fuel... I don't like the taste of gas.. Hence I do it this way..

Howdy,

Welcome to iboats!

If you suspect fuel contamination, you should probably get yourself a new fuel tank gage sender gasket and remove the sender.

Then get some 1/2" or larger clear vinyl hose and siphon the fuel out through the hole. This way you can see in there and if you tip bow up, you'll be able to suction out all the debris and water in the tank.

Do it outside with plenty of ventilation, and have a fire extinguisher handy.

get a helper to switch containers if one is not enough......

If you're going to change the drive oil in a Cobra, be sure you follow the OMC procedure for refilling with gear oil.

yes thank you for reminding me i did this a week ago and i just checked i was 1 oz. off had to add a little.

procedjure for outdrive oil;
take out bottom bolt drain
take out dipstick as a vent [faster drainage]
once empty replace bottom bolt
take out middle bolt attatch your filling tube to middle bolt
pump in aprox. 64 oz. of gear lube
replace middle bolt and dip stick
fire up motor put in drive for a moment
check before you go out again 24 hours later and add gear lube if needed.

at least thats how my manual tells me how to do it, i was 1 oz. off not bad give or take for residual lube in the bottom of the bottle.

Don't forget that when you fill the drive, you rest the dipstick on top of the threads (not screwing it in) for the initial fill.....

THEN after running it, screw the dipstick in to check the oil level.....
