Closing boat up for winter for first time and need help on method to drain closed cooling system.

I searched forum and also read manual. The manual shows location on side of block, but mine appears to not have one.

Didn't learn about putting in antifreeze until later so want to get anti freeze in it before winter.

Go to this link and in the "engine type" box, enter AQ125A

From there you can download an owners manual.

Engine database - Engine database : Volvo Penta

Your engine should have antifreeze in the block and should not require draining. but I would check the antifreeze to make sure it is the right mixture for your climate.

You'll need to drain the raw water system and the owners manual should help you with that.:)

Let us know if you are still unsure.

Thanks for your response but I do have to drain my closed water cooling as it is currently straight water. I have a manual and it shows that a drain is next to the raw water drain, but not the case on my motor.

I have so far pumped out what I could from the cooling tank, but I believe there is a thermostat involved so I can't get to the water in the block. Not exactly sure what part of engine the closed water system cools, but pretty sure I need to drain and then replace with antifreeze.

There is an allen screw on opposite end of the block from the raw water drain, but it isn't ever going to move, tried!!!!

OK, I think I figured it out. I just realized that when I opened the block drain it was rusty water coming out, must be the internal system water drain. Next season will be anti freeze.

I believe I have the sea water covered by draining manifold, copper pipe and impeller cover.

Sorry, I don't have a motor to look at. Like you said, the manual says the block drain is behind the exhaust pipe.

Maybe someone with your motor will chime in...

I would not leave damp air in the closed part all winter. Why not refill with antifreeze and rust inhibiter now?.
As for the sea water part, those copper pipes are expensive. I take mine off along with the sea water pump and keep them in my house all winter. I use a shop vac on the heat exchanger and manifold in attempt to get water drops out ( may be helping my peace of mind more than the boat).
