Why do you want to remove the (cylinder?) head?

Can you share any more information about the engine?

Sorry Ted
What an idiot I am giving no information, Engine is an AQ130C first signs I had was milky oil in filler cap and rocker box cover I did a complete oil and filter change and took it for a run lasting about 1/2 hour and oil on dipstick was quite white and level of oil had risen so obviously I am suspecting the head gasket.

Engine is running fine no missing or stalling ticks over great, drives well with loads of power also it is not overheating.

could be a failed oil cooler, could be a cracked block or head, could be a head gasket.

do a system pressure test to determine where the leak is coming from

Are you in an area that gets freezing temperatures? If so, was the block drained before winter?

The head removal and replacement in the boat is fairly simple task for any shade tree mechanic.
Just plan ahead where you will keep all the nuts, bolts, etc. to keep them from rolling into the bilge.

Thanks for the replies guys
I always winterize the engine and put a thermostatically controlled heater in engine bay as well, drain block and fogging oil in etc.

Thanks Dennis I have a mate at the marina who does classic cars and saw him yesterday and said the same as you but he would love to give me a hand as he enjoys messing about with old engines and as you know the old Volvo in this boat is getting a bit ancient now.
