Dressing lower unit threads?

What do you guys use to dress the threads of the bolts that attach the lower unit to the mid section? The manual says to use OMC gasket sealer. Reading numerous threads I discovered that the Permatex Aviation gasket sealer is the same? I picked some up and it looks like the old shellac goop from yesteryear?
Earlier I started a thread when I broke two bolts while removing the lower unit of my 89 70hp Johnson. Thanks to your help I was able to remove the power head and take the mid section to a shop where the bolts were drilled and heli-coiled. So now I'm at the point where I got the power head and the mid section re-assembled and I'm ready to install the lower unit.
I'm thinking that whatever the factory used to seal the threads caused the bolts to break, The motor was never in salt water.
Anyways, looking for some advise before I tighten the bolts.
thanks

Corrosion is what caused the bolts to break. That isn't limited to salt water. Just takes a little longer in fresh. The Permatex Aviation is not the "same" as OMC/BRP Gasket sealer, but will work just as well in this application. Yeah, it's been around for a couple of centuries, at least.

Thanks FR for your response.
I re-thought my original post and I don't think the factory sealant caused the problem as it seems the water pump was replaced by the PO. I'm wondering if a sealant he used might have caused the problem because the shafts of the broken bolts were corrosion free. The two bolts that removed easily also had corrosion free shafts but the threads were caked up with chalky white stuff (corrosion?).
Anyways, if things work out with this motor I'd like to keep if for awhile so the lower unit will have to come back off in a few years. If you think I'm OK with the Permatex I'll go with it but I don't mind buying the OMC stuff if it will save a headache.
thanks again

The Permatex Aviation has worked for me in the past. This last time, I used permatex #2 non-hardening, as it is thicker. You need to watch the buildup of all sealers.

Powdery white corrosion happens any time you're working with bolts in aluminum. The white powdery stuff is actually aluminum oxide. And that happens often with dissimilar metals... So basically anything you can do to keep aluminum from being exposed to the air without any paint or sealer will eventually oxide as well into white powder.

Permatex Aviation Sealer is what I use. Mebbe not "the same" as the factory goo but quite similar.

I recommend making a minimal investment into a set of thread and bolt "chasers".

Always good practice to keep yer hole and yer nuts & bolts clean ...

Good idea. Got a set and I'll use them before applying the goop.
Thanks to all
