I recently purchased a Mercury Vengence 19" pitch SS prop (3 blade) for my 200 Mercury on a 18' Galaxy. It had an aluminum 21" that was pretty tore up and did not perform very well. I tested a 21" four blade, but it did not plane as fast as I liked, and the WOT was only about 5000RPM.

The Vengence 19 WOT is about 5300RPM in the low 50's MPH. At that point, the boat is bouncing pretty badly with the trim up. I have a jack plate (manual) and am trying to find the right height.

Anyway, I would like to increase the hole-shot even more ( which is quite good with the 19") I am planning on drilling the holes in the prop. Does anyone have experience with drilling the holes at an angle to help provide a better path for the exhaust gases to escape? Is this neccesary?

Also, the 4 blade prop I tested had holes in it for different size plugs. The holes without the plugs are larger than 3/4".

Is there any detriment toward drilling the holes large, possibly as large as 1/2 to 3/4"??

Sorry so long!!!

Thanks for any help!

Rick

Drilling straight in will do fine, but you don't want 1/2" or 3/4".Start with 1/4" then test,3/8" then test, and so on.Running average load your looking for 3000-3200 rpms.Any more than that, and she blow out when your loaded down.My guess is you'll end up at 3/8"-7/16".
