My 1959 35 hp has an access hole to adjust the points with the flywheel on. I can do it on the water. My 1960 has no hole, but you can see it is the same casting. Why not drill the 3/4-1" hole myself? It's so close to the center, and the chips will be nearly weightless, so I doubt it will affect the balance. Has anyone ever done this? What's the worst thing that can happen? I could drill two holes to maintain balance. I don't thnk I need the coverplate once the recoil starter is installed. I don't have a generator. Can you link me to an earlier thread on this? Thanks,

OMC discontinued the points access port in the Big Twins due to problems with flywheel cracks with flywheels that had the ports. Even in 1959, they switched over, and started replacing flywheels with the ports.

In 1960, the ports were gone for good.

I'd leave your flywheel alone, frankly.

leave it alone, it will throw it out of balance also.
