"Need A Right hand rotation? RE-Shim and run it RH."​

On Facebook a guy lists a 3.0 L 25" L hand lower unit for sale.
The add (above) says that you can reshim and run it backwards.
I'd always heard that the L hand units weren't strong enough to run backwards/forwards
for prolonged usage ???
Can someone give the right answer??

Can you explain why they're wrong?
I told them the unit wasn't built strong enough to run for a prolonged time,
when in reverse..
