the adult section / how to winterize this drive, says basically, take the drive off, inspect bellows, gimbal, etc THEN change the drive fluid - then reinstall drive

does it matter if the drive fluid is changed before taking it off, or after it's put back on ?

also, i don't remember the manual saying wether or not there is a zirk fitting on this particular drive model to grease the gimbal, anyone know for sure ?

It doesn't matter, but I would pull it first, no since changing the gear lube only to find you have to work on the drive and loose your new lube.

Look on the starboard side of the transom shield about half way down, close to the hull and see if there is a zirk there. If not, you don't have a zirk, you can't grease the gimbal bearing.
As I recall, the SX-A drives have the maintenance free gimbal bearings. No zirk.

ok, if no zirk and they are maintenance free - then would you grease the drive shaft before reinstalling the drive ?

ABSOLUTELY.......... and check the alignment. Unless you have a desire to pull the engine to replace a coupler.
