Drive identification

On mercstuff it is one of the ways to identify the drive. It says :

A. Top cover is flat. Pre - Alpha has a hump on it with a hole thru it.
B. Area around vent hole is smooth. Pre - Alpha has ribs.
C. Hole for plastic trim tab cover is 1/2 diameter. Pre - Alpha is 7/16.

Mine definitely has the rounded upper part with the hole in it (A), but it doesnt have the ribs (B).

Any tips? Also, why the hole? I freaked out the first time i saw it while swimming, seemed like water was coming in and out of it. Maybe a drain hole?

Thanks so much, ill check it out... do you know why that hole they are talking about is in the upper rounded part of the drive?
