drive lift

I just bought my first boat. Its an 84 bayliner capri. well I noticed there is a red light on the dash labeled drive lift. Can someone please explain that alittle more to me and what it means? thanks

I'm thinking it's a protection thing. Keeps you from getting it trimmed up too much and sucking air instead of water. Get in the boat and play with it. You'll have to experiment with the key on / off etc. You may even need the motor running - don't know.
Do remember the muffs if you run it on land. :eek:

I have a 1985 ciera with a volvo 280 drive. The drive lift light will come on whenever the drive is lifted even a little. That drive was meant to be run in the full down position. The only reason it has lift is to trailer it. There was no trim on it. I have been told that if you lift it to far while running it that it will hit the flywheel and cause big problems. I hope this helps.
