drive oil capacity???

Ok, so I got a merc manual, made a pressure guage to test the drive, found the prop shaft seals were leaking. No other leaks found so replaced the impeller and slid the drive back onto the boat. Now to refill the drive with oil.

How much oil should it take? Going to follow directions and fill from the bottom until it comes out the vent hole, but just so I know I have enough and no air pockets how much should it take to fill?

I looked through the manual and either it is not listed or my ADD is kicking my rear end. Couldn't find the capacity page. Any help. thanks again.

I think I usually end up around 1.5 quarts for my Alpha One (first generation). I assume it is different for each outdrive, which do you have again?

Ayuh,.....

All of the Alpha family of drives use slightly More than a Quart......

I usually pump in about 3/4 of the 1st qt., then switch the pump to the 2nd 1 to finish it up.....
That way there's No chance of introducing Air into it.....
After I'm done,... I tranfer the remaining oil to a single bottle for storage....

Re: drive oil capacity???

Thank you again.
I have a galon of oil but my pump won't fit down into the jug. Therefore I pour the oil into a quart jug and pump it in.
I was guessing around a quart and a half, but have worked on enough center pivots to know if you get an air pocket it sometimes gives a false reading as to oil level especialy now when it is still a little cool outside and the oil is a little stiff.

Now all I should have left is get the shift control adjusted and wait for the ice to go off the lake. I have a feeling I may need a new shift cable, I just can't get the right adjustment on the shift. I get it to go to forward gear just right, but then reverse is just a little off. Get the reverse right then the forward is not quite right. The 6 inch adjustment was not quite right either.

Anyway thanks again for the information.
