So the drive pin hole is elongated in my '66 Johnson 20hp prop that I just picked up. To the point where it clunks when going into gear and it bust the first shear/drive pin and bent the second one. It is cheaply fixable or time to toss it?

Re: Drive pin hole elongated

If we're going to try a cob job:
Lower the rpm to close to stalling before shifting.Pause momentarily in neutral
You could use a prick punch along the edges of the groove
To dimple the edge in several places.
or you could try epoxy; spray the shaft, pin and prop grove with silicone put the pin in place fill the groove in the prop with just enough epoxy put the prop in place let it harden.Hopefully the silicone will allow you to get it apart.
The prop does have a cushoning hub you could try a stouter stainless pin.

Hmmm... You've given me an idea. What is the hub made of steel? Can I MIG it closed? Or cut a 90 degree groove in the opposite direction? Not sure how I'd re cut it though.

Take it in. For what a shop could fix it or replace it for its usually not worth your time to experiment with it. My 02
