I was thinking about servicing my own drive, but I'm not sure if I'm up to the task.

I've been looking at various manuals (Seloc and Clymer) and it would seem the Seloc has multiple bad reviews. I haven't been able to find any reviews on the Clymer manual.

I know a shop manual would be best, but from what I found, there are separate books on the engine and drive. Can I get one shop manual that covers BOTH? Most shop manuals are $50+ each.

I have a 2001 305 GM Mercruiser (233), Alpha 1

Is there a web site that shows a step-by-step way to service a drive?

Thanks,

H.

Re: Drive service and manuals

You need the Mercruiser manuals (both ) to properly service your system.Even $100.00 for books is realistic,if you factor in local shop rates. Some things you will still have to have done for you,but these manuals will let you do all you are capable of.
I encourage my customers to do the work they can,and pay me for what they can't.
DHP

Homerr,
If you Seach ebay, You'll find Many Mercruiser Factory Manuals........
It Might take a couple of weeks of seaching,
But 1 for Your Engine,+ Outdrive Will Come Up....... ;)
And, You Probably Won't spend $50.00 for Both of them.....

Re: Drive service and manuals

The Merc Manuals are much more in depth than Seloc or Clymer. I both Clymer and Seloc as well as the Merc manuals for the drive and engine. Another forum I go to has a link to the Merc drive manuals in pdf format for you to view online or print out. Very useful to have.
