Drive shaft thrust bearing

I'm rebuilding the lower end on my 9.9HP Eska, and replacing the thrust bearing on the drive shaft.
This is the bearing just below the water pump. Anybody know which way the bearing goes on the shaft? Is the thrust up or down?

I would think this is the same on all outboards regardless of manufacturer.
Please help.
