hey guys. Looking to replace the gear oil for my outdrive for a volvo 270. Not sure how to determine the drive type. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
If you can find SAE 30 non detergent use that but the main thing use motor oil. Later model Volvos do use heavier oil but at the time that drive was made Volvo specified motor oil.
It holds just over 2 quarts if my memory is right. Take out the fill plug under the shift linkage cover and fill it with the drive tilted up enough to keep checking the level with the dipstick.

They actually don't use heavier oil. 30 viscosity engine oil is a thicker viscosity than 75W-90 gear oil used in newer drives, at least when the gear oil is cold.
