Getting ready to do an impeller change on my '76 155ETL76. Last one I did was on a 1998 40hp mercury about 5 years ago. That one went easy. Just had to put it in forward gear, undo all the bolts, wiggle it a bit and it dropped right out. Putting it back in was nearly as easy. Being new to owning an older motor, I'm hoping this one will be as easy and follow the same procedure. Anything different I should do or watch for when I go to do it? Also, I pulled my prop earlier today and found a bit of rust and some hardened grease on the backside of the prop and both surfaces of the thrust bushing. I'm guessing this may account for the prop continuing to rotate briskly when in neutral. It can be easily stopped by "hand" (with a board for safety) and does not quite turn fast enough to move the boat when in neutral. I have never seen one do that before, just a little bit of a spin on the merc I had before. I cleaned off all the surfaces, but should i apply a light coat of grease to the bushing when i reinstall and grease the splines on the prop? Can't wait to get all these tune up and checklist things done so i will have some measure of peace of mind once I get back on the water. The choke problems i posted about before were driving me nut's. lol.
