Dropping the LU on 1985 25hp Johnson Commerical Need quick help

I am in the process of dropping my LU to replace the water pump ive removed the 5 bolts and disconnected the shift rod and the thing wont budge I tried tapping it with a mallet and even tried using a small flat head to start separating the two pieces. This motor has been used to salt water and im assuming its just super corroded, or am i just missing a bolt? Do I need to remove part #64 completely ( shown on the diagram with the link down below) or just remove the nut? Thanks for your help

Nope, just remove the nut and washer. I agree, it sounds like corrosion.

Ive been trying to free it for an hour..any suggestions? I mean I got a flat head and tried to go all around the seal for free it and its not budging and sprayed wd40 all along the separation line and nothing is coming loose.

Its stuck On the back near the part#64 Bolt its almost like it is welded on or something

Try PB blaster or liquid wrench etc

I put tons of liquid wrench on it still wont budge im scared im going to break it from prying on it with screw drivers, My 92 merc that has stayed in a saltwater environment its whole life and is not even close to this kind of corrosion. There are for sure no more than 5 bolts? I dont see any other places that they could be......

The shift rod #64 does not need to get remove. It does need to be disconnected.

If you can get it to separate just a tiny bit turn the engine upside down and spray PB Blaster on the drive-shaft and let it run up to the crank. Frequently the splines of the drive-shaft will get stuck in the crank and you need to get the PB Blaster up into the splines of the drive-shaft. This is caused because there is an o ring that is supposed to be installed in a grove at the top of the drive-shaft and lubed. Bet the previous owner failed to do that. Also be patient the PB Blaster needs time to work.

Thanks for your responses. jasper the bolt on yours looks alot longer than mine, also the shift rod is free the forward part of the LU will wiggle freely about 1/2 inch but the back near the bolt wont budge heres some pics.

In some past posts re corrosion there has been mentioned using a 50/50 mix of acetone and auto transmiision fluid which seems to work well. Just a thought. Good luck

Im just going to the the BP blaster soak overnight i give up on it today, and i screwed the threads up on the bolt trying to pry on it..oh well just another thing to fix.

Yea, my bolt is longer because its a long shaft.
Soaking it real good sounds like a good idea. Be patient with it.
