Have a 1995 DT-25c that starts and runs fine, but when we fish awhile sometimes for one hr. and go to start it again-it dyes and is hard to start. I have to let it sit for a few mins before it starts. Sometimes it is running fine than when I have to idle it dyes and is hard to start again. Now it won't idle at all! I had the local suzuki shop work on it and thought they had it licked by replaceing some fuel lines and the quick connector on the main fuel hose but it dyed again at idle and after not running for sometime.
I replaced the kill switch because it had carroded badly.
I don't get any warning buzzer or light or any sign that it is overheating.
I need to know what to check and how to check the power pack and sensors.
My friend said he heard of sometimes oil filters needing cleaning could cause it to do this?
Need help before I sell it but really like how fast it gets me around for a 25 hp because the marsh I fish has a 25 hp limit.
Thanks for any help you might give me as to what to look for and how to test things that might be the prob!!

mine does the same thing. i dont think they like to idle alot. they tend to load up the carbs. once you start it, throw it in gear and gas it to clear it out. you can try to lean the idle mixture a little.

Re: DT-25c dyes

Seems like a good place to start. The mechanic want's to clean the carbs, but that doesn't sound like a permanent solution. I have run it full throttle with the chock half on and seems to help for awhile. I will try leaning the mixture. thanks

If you are having to choke it, do not lean the mixture, you need to clean the carbs.

drain carbs with brass plug/drain screw on side of carb. let it drain on a clean white rag to see what's in them. with plugs out, pump primer to "flush" carbs. you may need to remove and clean carbs/jets so it will run and idle like it's supposed to. is your fuel fresh and clean?, filter clean?, use a fuel sabilizer like Stabil?, maybe add a fuel/water seperator? clean, fresh, stabilized fuel and she'll purr like a kitten! Good Luck!
