Suzuki 1987 model DT 85, hard to start but idles ok once it gets going. Problem lies when I throttle up, motor dies. Sounds like it is bogging down or choking. Where would be the best place too start looking? Have some experience with OMC, but new to suzuki.

Re: DT 85 dies on accelaration

The 3 Mikuni carbs on the DT85 must be kept surgically clean on the inside. If the engine has been sitting for some time the carbs would need to be disassembled and cleaned with carb cleaner AND compressed air and reassembled with the rebuild kits. As part of the reassembly check the synchronzation of the carb butterflies with the ignition timing advance as per manual specs. Later models have electronic ignition advance with throttle position sensors (TPS). Try choking the engine a little. If it responds its definitely the carbs.

Thanks for the info, carb kits have been ordered. The manual calls for a carburetor balancer, to syncronize the 3 carbs, any idea on where to locate such an item, or is it really necessary?

I don't think its really necessary. I think if you get them all adjusted to be shut together it won't be necessary. I never had to use one on mine.
