recently bought 6 metre boat with dt140 suzuki that sat in a shed for aprox 4 years without being started. have replaced fuel filter, plugs and cleaned fuel pump. when first starting comes up to full power but drops back to about half after about 10 seconds. will remain on full power for a bit longer if primer bulb is continually squeezed. diafram in petrol pump appears ok. Not a problem from fuel tank as we get same results using a fuelcan in front of filter

Re: dt140 fuel problem

The Mikuni carbs on the Suzukis like to be kept clean and may be dirty from sitting. Also the pumping of the fuel bulb helping sounds like a bad fuel pump diaphragm. If you go to the trouble of disassembling the fuel pump you should replace the diaphragm, its inexpensive. It only takes a pin hole to cause a problem. Either that or you have an air leak in the fuel line somewhere (such as at the connector)causing a drop in fuel flow.

hello
I am with jimd
sometimes the varnish in the fuel lines will clog a mikuni. good carbs but zero tolerance for any trash. replace that diaphram. its cheap and they fail. check all lines and line connections for leaks or restrictions. but if the carbs have not been apart its time.

If you can get Berryman's B-12 in can form it can work miracles for cleaning crud out of carbs. Yes, those carbs don't like crud but if it runs good for a while (and it idles okay also) I supect it may not be the problem.

Biederboat
