I'm picking up a used boat with twin 1989 DT200 engines and I need to trim them up before the transporter can pick up the boat. The boat has been sitting for 4 years and when I hooked up a bettery I could not get the trim to work for either motor. I may try jumping the trim motors directly to see if I can get them up.

I also saw there is a manual release valve and I was wondering what the procedure is to raise the motors using this valve? These are the first outboards I'm dealing with so I'm unsure what to do.

Also, once i get them raised do I need to lock them in position in any way before towing the boat?

Thanks for any help,
Rob

Re: DT200 power trim?

The manual release is a screw pressure releaf valve (of sorts). Turn the screw counter clock wise to open the valve, this will allow you to raise the engine by hand to whatever position you need. Tighten the screw to close the valve and this will lock the trim in that position. There may be a tilt lock lever on your engine but Suzuki doesn't recommend this be used to keep the motor tilted while trailering - they preferr a motor support tube (motor toter). If the motors can be safely trailered while in the loweredposition, this would be an option (just raise andlower the motor using the manual relief valve but be careful when releasing pressure if the motor is raised since it will lower on its own due to gravity).
