50:1 One pint TCW-3 rated outboard oil to six gallons of unleaded (87 octane) fuel.

Thanks for fast reply.the sticker on the engine says to use 100/1.i used this ratio when first took the boat out recently and had problems with the engine loosing revs and then suddenly gaining revs again and taking off.I have had the carb apart and all looks fine, checked the fuel pump and no probs there ,checked the fuel tank and hoses and cant find any probs.the manual says a lean fuel mixture could cause this problem and also states that the fuel mixture should be 50/1 as you say.I am confused.

"lean mixture" has nothing to do with the oil/gas ratio. It's the gas/air ratio the motor's getting from the carb. I would run it 50:1 for oil.

Sounds like you may have a fuel delivery problem causing the erratic RPM's, check fuel tank pick-up tube, fittings, primer bulb, fuel quick-disconnect on front of motor, fuel pump, fuel filter. Primer bulb has 2 check valves, one in each end, both must work correctly. Also check for air in-leakage around hoses or fittings. Good Luck!

Cheers.have checked all these things but will check again.have also changed the plugs.if i run some 50/1 fuel through the engine would it do much harm if it was meant to be 100/1?do you think someone in the the past has replaced the sticker on the engine with the wrong one?

Re: dt30 fuel ratio?

Not at all. In fact, OMC changed their mix ratio recommendation in the late 80's to 100:1 but found they were having rust issues during storage due to there not being a good enough coating of oil on the internals. So they switched back to recommending 50:1. (I know this isn't an OMC, just an example)

100% accurate. Yamaha basically copied everything OMC did.

Yamaha lost-BIG time-on patent infringement.

Go with 50:1, use a good oil and you'll be good to go.
