So I bought from a buddy a DT5 for just fifty bucks. He hasn't used it for a couple of yrs. he also threw in the gas tank. I assume I use 50:1 gas and oil mixture. I have no manual for it. I got started and running. Nice flow from the pee hole.....woohoo! Looks like I got a motor for my zodiac!
It does need a new pinion starter. The old one is all chewed up. And I was wondering if a higher octane then 87 would be better?

Sounds like you got a deal!...50:1 is correct...low test fuel is just what you need, higher test is a waste of money on that motor...a new pinion or starter and you should be set to go. Clean and check your fuel system, tank, lines, filter, etc....Drain your carb float chamber to remove any water or debris in there. Good Luck!

Re: Dt5 up and going.

Thank you capt. I found shop manuals for the dt5 on line for (gulp) around thirty bucks. Luckily I see my local library also has a copy or two so I requested it. I'll have a better idea how to do your suggestions when I look at that.
Don't want to screw anything up. Also the kill button switch on the throttle is missing. Again something not to mess with till a manual is handy. Can't do much until I get the zodiac registered anyway. But a screwdriver makes a fine subsitute for the switch.
