I'm new to boating, a buddy of mine gave me a DT55 that needed a new head gasket, and a few misc parts. Seemed to work great. Pulling the kids around on a tube when it acted like the clutch was in neutral at full revs. No grinding noises or clunks. from an idle you can here the clutch engage, but when you apply rpm, no go. Still no grinding noises.

I removed the prop and transmission, and everything looks like it should. No chewed gears or filings. Any Ideas?

A little surfing on this site and I believe I can answer my own question. Did I slip the prop on the hub? I didn't realize that it was like that, but i guess it makes sense that you would want to have a weak link in case you tagged something.

You spun the hub (bush on the prop) ..... take the prop off and take it to a prop shop .....

It can foul you up occasionally but it's a great way to protect the lower unit. That's also why I like using an aluminum prop versus SS. Props are cheap in comparison.... but what's really cheap on a boat?
