I had to take apart the tilt/trim motor and clean up the thermal braker and brushes due to water intrusion. When I filled the reservor with fluid I must have over filled the unit because I got fluid coming up from the motor shaft spline/key area. Is this normal?

Re: DT75 95' tilt/trim motor

Hi,
My motor is a little older than yours but I think they will all work the same. I dont think it is usual to have oil near the motor shaft. The fluid level in the pump is set with the motor FULLY down to be level with the oil plug. When you tilt the motor up that oil is pumped into the cylinders. If the level was topped with the motor a little raised it could be overfilled. To check it I would remove the oil plug and fully lower the motor, if there is excess it will leak out. Then check the level is close to the plug (a piece of bent wire is a good method)
Good Luck
