Hello all,

I have searched numerous posts and have not been able to find any reviews/recommendations for/against regarding Dual electronic stereo equipment. If i missed it, i apologize.

I have been comparing all brands and the dual MXD70 CD Receiver/Media Player with wired remote has all the features i am looking for at a reasonable price.

Has anyone had any experience with Dual products that can comment on quality and reliability.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

Re: Dual electronics stereo experiences ?

Had a set of Dual speakers for side panels once. Bought em cause they were cheap and I wouldnt be upset if they got wet and destroyed, sounded so bad I felt like pissing on em to help with the destruction process.(sold the boat, didnt have to) They are a very low price brand...you know what they say..

Re: Dual electronics stereo experiences ?

thanks for the reply Quid...

I will be leaving the current speakers in so the head unit is all i really care about. I agree with your last sentence though :) .. that is why i am being cautious and looking for some feedback first.

For some reason (without spending $400), this unit is the only one that i can find that has these requirements for around $200...

- Aux input in the back of the deck (have sat radio unit already on the boat, hard-wired)
- wired remote with LCD (will be mounting the head unit inside and remote at the helm... therefore, really want the LCD display)
- Aux input in the front (for mp3 players, etc... this unit's wired remote has an iplug in it)
- MP3 playback from CD (R/RW)

This is going on a 22' center console that spends all of its time at the coast so super quality sound is not crucial although i dont want it to sound like crap also.

Thanks again... anyone else have any experiences or can point me to another unit with the above specs?

Thanks,
Charles

Re: Dual electronics stereo experiences ?

FYI...

Installed this unit and wired remote last weekend. I used my current speakers. Install was easy and parts seemed to be decent quality. Functionality is pretty straight forward. Not the best sound in the world but for a CC it is definitely good enough. One clarification to my requirements that i mentioned... if you use the wired remote, the mini plug on it for an ipod or whatever ends up connecting to the rear aux inputs so you do not have "both" unless you split the aux input in the back with RCA Y connectors. This is what i did since i would never use an ipod and my satellite radio at the same time. Any reason this is a bad thing?

just make sure you dont have them on at the same time. dont expect the deck to last to long though dual doesnt make the highest quality stuff

We put a Dual in the OL's car about 3 years ago and had no problems out of it. For the money, I would buy one again.

I have had Kenwoods, Alpines and Sonys fail on me. Even expensive units can break. Dual isn't the best sounding unit, but in a boat it will be fine.

Re: Dual electronics stereo experiences ?

I picked up four Dual receivers (automotive) on clearance for 25 bucks apiece a while ago. I put one in the boat, one in my old boss's boat, one in a friend's work truck, and one just went into a friend's car. All are still working. My boat hasn't been in the water much, and it's pretty protected, but I figure that if/when it dies, I'm not out much. The radio is in the cabin in my boss's boat, but it has never skipped and has the input, which is nice.

All in all, we've been pretty happy with them. I've had cheap radios and expensive radios, they all can have issues. I've got a really nice JVC DVD deck in the shop as I write this. I hope you have good luck with your new setup!
