Re: Dual Instruments on a Houseboat
The oil pressure and temperature gauges use sensors that are essentially variable resistors. Running two gauges from a single sensor will cause erroneous readings. For oil pressure, locate the current sensor, install a "T" fitting so you can install two sensors. Each sensor feeds a single gauge. Temperature sensors are located in the thermostat housing or block so the same principle applies. Use brass fittings (NPT) and make all additions as short as possible to avoid possible breakage of fittings from vibration. In the case of temperature sensors, there are often other plugs that can be removed and used for the second temp sensor. Be aware however, that its placement may result in a different reading than the other gauge.
