Hi. Our recently purchased used boat has a 24 volt trolling motor system which we have not tried yet. We noticed that the 2 batteries are linked together positive to negative and negative to positive. Could that be right? It seems to me that it should be positive to positive and negative to negative. Thanks for any assistance!

RC

Re: Dual trolling motor batteries

RC, Welcome to iboats. You're batts are hooked up in series which is correct to get 24 Volts. Hooking Pos to Pos and Neg to Neg is called parallel and only gives you 12 volts and more amps. Hook the neg lead of your motor to the neg post on one batt and the pos lead of your motor to the pos post on the other batt. This way you will pull of each batt equally. Good luck.

Blueheels, also when you charge the batts, disconnect the wire between the 2 batts so each one comes up to it's highest potential. There should also be a 50-60amp breaker in this system.
I use push-pull type so you can disconnect power supply on the trolling motor side as well.
