I have a 1993 50hp 2cylinder Johnson motor model JV50 TLETF. My problem is no spark to intermitten spark. I also have spark on one cylinder only at times. The motor runs great when I do have spark. I think I have eliminated the coil being the culpret by switching the coil wires coming from the power pack. If the wire harness, key switch, or kill switch were faulty I would have no spark at all, right? I've been fighting this problem for weeks now. I took the motor to a repair shop but it never acted up there. I hesitate to start buying new parts such as a power pack until I 'm certain what the problem is.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Don

A question: When you took the outboard to the shop, was it on the boat, or did you pull it to take it in? If you took the outboard alone into the shop, and it ran well there, I'd guess it's a problem with your boat's wiring. Check all connnections and look for wiring problems. If not, then I'm stumped, too.

This is our troubleshooting guide for that engine:

Shortcut:

OMC 2 Cylinder 1978-2006

Check stator DVA. If 150+V DVA, replace the power pack.

Re: ducksir

The motor was on the boat and trailer when I took it to the shop.
