I am new to the Volvo Penta outdrive world and I am having a hard time finding the correct trim cylinder.
I have a house boat with a 1994 Ford 5.0 L EFI and what I assume is the matching outdrive which is a duo prop design. The port cylinder is cracked which I need to replace. My local mechanic looked up my drive and came up with part 872612 which has the U shaped end on the shaft and mine have the cylinder shaped end.
The cylinder has a tag attached with 08W08 stamped on it and the starboard side has 08W09 onit. Are these numbers useful to trace the correct cylinder.

In addition, am I correct in saying these cylinders also prevent the drive from trimming up when placed in reverse as I can not see ant locking mechanism.

Thanks for your help

For a starting point, Have you seen this repair kit yet with the notes in each of the photos showing a round cylinder and U shaped end? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-Penta...082661?hash=item43ec3ac265:g:6roAAOSw6wRW~jsG

Just for reference work, here's the other similar part numbers but showing only the U-shaped from "Volvo" like mentioned by OP, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...o+penta.TRS0&_nkw=872612+Volvo+penta&_sacat=0

pk136, there may be a tag on the transom shield with a serial or product number that might help ID what parts are needed. http://www.volvopentastore.com/mall/template/store/volvopenta/help.html

Thanks for the replies guys, I will try to answer all inquiries.

Pictures to follow I have not removed the cylinder yet looking at the spring, hoping the transom pin comes out easily.
The cylinder is pooched with cracks in the housing.
I think I have the transom number which I will post
The closest style Ihave seen is part 3860881, how many styles can there be
