Durban bought 85hp Chrysler

I have just bought a 85 hp Chrysler with trim & tilt for 100 dlrs . i do not know much about this motor , all the guy said it does not go , iam very knowledge d on Johnson \ evinrude 60 -75hp , what i would like to know is this a good reliable motor once i get it going , what normally packs up on this model , i have not got to the stage of finding out why its not going yet .

Might be helpful if you have the model and serial number of the motor. If the model/serial numbers aren't on the motor, some pictures would be the next best thing.

I cant find the model no . this is what it looks like , all i know so far its a Magnapower 85hp . I notice the starter motor missing so far

Look under the cowl.Front where the shift cables go through.There should be a tag with the info on it.
From the looks of the lower unit(2 piece) it could be????
Maybe Frank will add something??

Hood graphics indicate a 1978, but I'm not sure if they had the 1-piece lower unit in 78. I've got a 1979 85hp and it has the 1-piece. A 1979 75hp, however, still has the 2-piece lower so it's possible that a 1978 85hp still had the 2-peice. Either way, great score! I really wish mine had PT&T....

when you refer to 2 piece , i looked at the leg & gear box the , very bottom of the gearbox where the gears are in looks like it bolts on from the inside , & where the impeller picks up water from , that side of it bolts on the out side visible , is this what you are referring to 2 piece , is it then a 1978 model , as there is no serial no the tag has been removed
