Is it recommended that ALL engines , both inboard and outboard have a water seperating fuel filter installed? If so , how big are these and where would I mount/install one of these in my outboard? { 1995 75 HP Merc}. Do these look similiar to an in-line fuel filter?

if you use a built in tank it is highly recommended, if using portable tanks not nescessairily, place the filter between the tank and primer bulb. need to be hard mounted , is about the size of and oil filter.

Re: E-10 and Water seperator filters

lisfisher, Usually the water seperators are mounted on the transom, since they need to be in a fixed position is bottom down, to work. My opinion is that as the gas enters the seperator, the water sinks to the bottom under is own desity, and pure gas is drawn out of the top of the filter. When they fill with water, the motor sucks up the water, and usually stalls. If you want to use one on your Outboard, make sure the motor is compatable with one. OBs are particular about flow of fuel. It is likely your 75HP will work, but, when I had a standard inline fule filter on my inline 6, I had fuel restriction problems.

Also, if you get enough water in your fuel, the water and alcohol will seperate from the gas (and oil). If you premix fuel, this stuff will cause damage if you try to run the motor on it.

I don't pre-mix , I have a seperate oil tank and it mixes automatically with the gas. I have not had any problems yet so I am debating whether or not I really need one.
