E tec 130 temperature alarm

I just bought an E Tec 130 , 2010 and had it out yesterday. The water temperature alarm came on two times. There is water coming out of the back . I shut the motor down waited 5 minutes and stated off again. The best rpm I could get out of the motor was 4800. Looking at the manual it says it should top out at 5500 rpm. Am I doing and damage to the motor running at 4800 rpms? The boat was trimmed out to get 4800. What should I do?

If you haven't done any damage yet get the alarm problem fixed before you do any more.

I bought the motor and boat together. 2010 is year.

I think you should figure out if you actually overheating. Am assuming you dont have software. A laser temp gun may tell the tale.
