The Merc DFI oil, and FICHT RAM oil are not certified. In fact, the Merc DFI oil says on the bottle that it is not to be used in some TC-W3 applications. FICHT RAM oil says exceeds TC-W3 but it is not on the certified oils list. Both have been out for over a year.

Dave

Re: E tec oil

Is this because the engines they were intended to be run in, do not require TC-W3, as they require a different spec.....maybe higher?????

Re: E tec oil

Certain specialty oils are designed only for particular motors. Merc's Opti oil is one and it says not to use in traditional outboards.

TC-W3 specs have around 30 criteria that an oil has to meet, besides lubricate. Certain motors may not require all the specs needed. Opti oil is not made to mix with gasoline.

Look at the "high milage" car oils and racing oils that are available. They do not meet the API cetifications that ordinary car oils do.
