Evinrude 1987 150. What size battery do I need to start it. I have a 650 cranking amp battery It isn't turning it over fast enough and drains the batter pritty quick. I just got the motor. It is on a stand and I am using a remote start switch.I have good compression spark will jomp 7/16" gap blue spark. getting fuel but won't start. I don't thing it is spinning fast enough to start.

It has to turn 250-300 RPM to start. Have your battery load tested and make sure your battery cables are good, clean and tight. Squirt some fuel in the carb throats once and see what happens.

It is a new walmart battery. I sprayed carb cleaner in the throught and it will pop.When I try to start it starts spinning fine but slowes down in a couple of seconds. Some one wen't after a new solinoid. If that don't help next I will take the starter apart and look at it.

Take starter apart.--Take ohm reading from commutator to the shaft.----Should read infinity.

Ok thanks guys. I gave it a shot of carb cleaner and it started right up running good now.
