Folks - previous experience and current for that matter has been with cheap flashers and such. Was going to return to same after the hummingbird on my new (used) Lund was retired to the trash (kept 'playing' test pattern)and parts for an older Eagle 128 I have was/are within 30 bucks of a similar unit on this site new. Need to get it replaced and was on another outdoor chain storesite (starts with what most of us call a taxi..) and they have a Eagle 240 - 240 pixels and peak to peak of 1500 watts.

Iboats is out of stock, but kinda appears to me to be a unit they may be discontinuing -- which doesn't matter to me.

Long winded explanation for the question - at $99 can I go wrong?

Re: Eagle 240 - - Good?

I have a 15hp johnson, second year on over haul I use it to troll slow.Ever since the over haul i notice gray sludge comes out of the exhaust holes of the lower unit It leaves a oil line on the trasom and for days later, the sludge comes out sitting in the garage.I run the same oil,Iplayed with the lean and rich. The motor runs fine, but once in a while it loads up and quits(running slow)I don't foul plugs. It also stops peeing 3 or 4 times an outing.I use a paper clip to unplug the hole, then steamy mist shoots out, then works fine.Sometimes it starts hard and it use to be real easy starting. Not ahappy camper.I NEED HELP.

B - sounds like you're leaking gear lube up through the waterjacket and out the exhaust (and any other hole it can find). I suspect you've got a seal or gasket out - when mixed with H2O and exhaust gear lube looks like that and explains why your impeller is cloging up.

You might have a bit better luck with your question if you went to the outboard section under OMC/Johnson/Evinrude.

Thanks Rick - it was where you said but appears to be the first model - 3.5 x3.5 screen, but didn't think with 240 pixels I could beat it so I just ordered on line - I went to the site and then to on-line store - Eagle/Lowrance under boats and it was a 'special buy'. Let me know if you can't find it - I'll send you the URL if you want.

Out

That is truly a good deal, for a full featured fisfinder with that kind of resolution. I like my Bird, but that may have just changed my thinking. I think I will get one just to have it at that price...

I just purchased an EAGLE SeaFinder 240DF Fishfinder, to replace the crappy humminbird wide 128 we have.

I hope it will give me a good salt water service.

Kesh - I had an Eagle fishfinder which was used 100% of the time in salt water and it worked fine. Just get very familiar with your unit's zoom functions to enable seeing fish arches in deep water. Oh, and don't put too much faith in the fish icons if your unit has those; better to go with the arches. In my experience arches will be fish, but icons may not be. Good fishing.
