I have a 60 Hp Mercury Outboard motor on a Bass Tracker boat. It has been in storage for some time. Since that time, I have forgotten where to
place the ear muffs on the motor to start it in my garage.

There are some holes right behind the propellar
and then there are some slots above the flanged part above the propellar.

One set is on the boat side, the slots are on the back of the motor.

Please give me an idea where to put these muffs.

Thank you. Look under the cavitation plate. There may be a set of luvers (sp?) in front of the trim tab. This is where the water pickup is on some merc L/U's.
And welcome to iboats. com

the water pickup on a merc 60 is the slots underneath the cavitation plate the are infront of the prop & slightly above the bulge in the gearbox housing. The muffs must cover all the slots on both sides of the housing & turn the hose on full.Too much water is better than not enough.Hope this helps :)
