I need a four wheel drive truck with a plow for this winter. I don't plan on plowing streets, but I have a ton of driveways.

I'm looking now, because I know as fall comes the prices will go way up.

It seems like their are two leages of trucks, ones for 15k+ in exelent condition, and the ones for 15hundred that are 18 years old, run ok but need all kinds of work to keep going.

I need something in the middle, for under five grand.
I found a '91 or '92 GMC Jimmy two blocks from my house. The guy had a old POS pickup forsale, and I stoped with a friend to look at it, while I was their I mentioned he was looking to sell the Jimmy soon. I've stoped back a few times asking about it.

Today I was all over the truck, its a nice rig. Its a half ton, with(I think) the 360 engine. It has just under 130thousand miles on it, and it includes a fisher plow. The plow has only been installed for a few years, and plowed a hand full of driveways. Its not a rust bucket like a lot of the older trucks around here. 90% of the pannels are rust-free. The only prolbems under the doors, and the floorboard under the drivers seat, easy fixs for me. The guy says he's had all kinds of recent work done, including all kinds of new front end parts, which I can see. The It has a minor exaust leak.

He says he doesn't want to take any less then five grand for it. I'm looking to bring him down to at least four.

Does anyone have any experence with these trucks? Do they make good plow rigs? How does the price sound?

Price sounds a bit high to me. Around here for 5 grand you can get one that's either been somewhat restored, or a very well maintained and in very good condtion stock vehicle. I've been looking for a diesel Blazer/Jimmy recently, and what you describe would be around $3500. If you're just looking for something to plow with, I would suggest a truck rather than a Jimmy, they're generally cheaper for something in the same condition, and I would think a 3/4 ton would be better for plowing.

BTW...that would be a 350, not a 360. ;) (unless it's been bored out or something)

You are talking about a full sized Jimmy, not an "s" jimmy, right?

As ZmOz says, better off with a full sized pickup 4x4.
