Early production 60 degree V4 thermostat issue

Working on a 1995 v4 60 degree 115. Service bulletin says to install newer style t stats with the white cone-shaped case around them, vs the old traditional ones. The issue Im having is it's not getting up to temp with old traditional t stats in it. I had a stiffer spring, and put it in one head and bingo... runs about 135 degrees steady now on hose. I want to do the same for the other (starboard) side as it's only at about 115 degrees. 95 degrees at the top. way too cool!
Questions: I had a pair of the newer cone-shaped ones at the shop, but they won't fit! The grommet in the head is too small. Do i need to remove the grommet and replace it with the new style seal? how do i get the grommet out if that's the case... it's really stuck in there... both sides!
Second question: why can't i just get a stiffer spring for the other head to seal it's old traditional t stat, and call it a day?
Thanks in advance for any help guys!

What service bulletin? BRP clearly shows the original thermostat still available. That thermostat is.shown as used for at least 10 yrs.

I have the bulletin somewhere but will have to dig. the t stats in it now are not shown on any parts diagram, but are mentioned in the bulletin as "some early production" motors as having them. I haven't seen them like this before, either! let me see if i can find the bulletin.

I just realized the bulletin below is for 1997 models, but now i'm more confused unless previous owner did something. the t stats that were in the motor were the old style, and not correct (look like they were for a car or something lol). so i put in known good ones with a stiffer spring in one, and it's warming the port head perfectly. Any harm in putting in a stiffer spring?

I've never had any luck with cooling issues being solved on a hose or in a barrel...

pushes the t stat on it's seat. if it's too weak, the t stat will leak around the sides and overcool the head.

Its a t-stat and poppet built in one..water flows thru it at lower RPM and controlled by t-stat. When water pressure exceeds 20 psi the t-stat housing unseats and t-stat now has no purpose as it being bypassed. The springs should be matched so pressure is equalized/balanced thru block and not more to one side....JMO

Thanks! I have the white "capsule" ones so ill pop those in. the sleeve and gasket from the old style is really in there! Hope i can get them out in one piece. looks like the old springs are the same, so should be easy-peasy once the sleeves are out.
